Tamron’s Flagship Ultra-Wide-Angle Zoom Lens Is Reborn

Written by Gina Stephens

The new high-speed ultra-wide-angle zoom lens, the SP 15-30mm f/2.8 Di VC USD G2 (Copy A041) continues Tamron Co., Ltd. (株式会社タムロン, Kabushiki-gaisha Tamuron) is a Japanese company manufacturing photographic lenses, optical components and’s well-established reputation for ultra-high-quality wide-angle zoom lenses but with many new features.

The Tamron 15-30mm f/2.8 ultra-wide-angle zoom lens embodies an XGM (eXpanded Glass Molded Aspherical) lens element, as well as multiple LD (Low Dispersion) lens elements. As a result, the distortion and lateral chromatic aberrations so workaday in wide-angle shooting have been greatly minimised. A newly developed AX (Anti-reflection eXpand) Coating has also been applied to reduce ghosting and flare.

The movement element now uses an advanced version of Tamron’s Fluorine coating to offer better protection than its predecessor from dirt, dust and moisture and Tamron’s Moisture Rebellious Construction also features in the lens.

In addition, the built-in Dual MPU (Micro-Processing Unit) enables vastly improved AF speed and nicety, together with a separate processor, enabling better VC (Vibration Compensation) image stabilisation which scores 4.5 stops* according to CIPA principles.

The Tamron SP 15-30mm f/2.8 Di VC USD G2 will join the 70-200mm f/2.8 G2 and Tamron 24-70mm f/2.8 G2 lenses in September (Nikon mount) and October (Canon mount). Prices TBC.

* CIPA Support Compliant. For Canon: EOS-5D MKIII is used. For Nikon: D810 is used.
