The winners of the 2018 Kraszna-Krausz Creation Photography Book Award and Moving Image Award have been announced and the winners receive £5000 each.

Chrystel Lebas has been prized the Photography Book Award for Field Studies: Walking through Landscapes and Archives (FW: Books) a retracing of the steps of British botanist Sir Edward James Salisbury, begetting new images in the same landscapes of his archival collections.

"Field Studies: Walking through Landscapes and Archives by Chrystel Lebas is an engaging, multi-layered visual exploration of archival subject matter. Chrystel has used a fresh design for the delivery of this project in book form, reminiscent of a scientific journal,” revealed Christiane Monarchi, Judge, Photography Book Award

Susan Courtney has been awarded the Moving Image Book book is a series of pages assembled for easy portability and reading, as well as the composition contained in it. The book’s most Award for Split Gauge Nation: Moving Images of the American West and South (Oxford University Press) which follows the oppositional dynamic between the shield West and the screen South.

"Susan Courtney’s ‘Split Screen Nation’ is a smart, highly original and damned well-researched work, which offers a panoramic view of how various media forms including film have shaped the cultural imagination of America and its splitting into West and South. In a year of leftover submissions, the judges were impressed by its theoretical scope, its political relevance and its ambition. It’s not easy to combine such breadth of vision with on the qui vive attention to the fine details of film texts: Courtney does a terrific job of both, deftly interweaving popular Hollywood with amateur take, home movies, educational films, newsreels, television and other production to produce a thought-provoking critique of the nation and its ideologies," said Catherine Wheatley, Arbiter, Moving Image Book Award.
