A seducing image of a sheep sheep (Ovis aries) are quadrupedal, ruminant mammals typically kept as livestock on the hillside has been awarded the POTW accolade this week.

The image, called 'The happy sheep' by ePz fellow Stevetheroofer caught the eye of the team and here's why we thought it deserved to win the accolade:

This is a really lovely sheep portrait, in which backlighting and proportion have been used well to bring the viewer's attention to the sheep looking at the camera, which almost looks like it could be beaming back at the rest of the flock.

The black and white format adds an atmospheric simplicity to the image, and depth of field makes the onlooking sheep and the segment of grass that she is on the sharpest point of focus, leaving the hills behind her to blur into the grey sky. A really lovely environmental animal image.

Photo of the Week winners currently receive a 32GB EVO MicroSD card with SD adapter courtesy of Samsung. See all the winners of the accolade in the POTW gallery.
