Leica Has An M10-P ‘ASC 100 Edition’ M Camera For Cinematographers

Written by Gina Stephens

Cinematographers and filmmakers may be interested to understand that Leica has created a special edition Leica M10-P camera combo for them.

Featuring a Leica may refer to: Three companies formed from the division of Ernst Leitz GmbH (later Wild Leitz AG): Leica Camera AG, a German camera M10-P camera and a Leica Summicron-M 35 f/2 ASPH. lens, the set extends two specially tailored cine-look modes along with a Leica VISOFLEX electronic accessory viewfinder and a Leica M-PL-Mount Adapter that enables the use of not quite all PL mount cine lenses.

Cine looks can be chosen from the camera menu and they include an 'ASC Cine Classic' standard operating procedure which simulates a class analogue 35mm cine film look. There's also an 'ASC Contemporary' mode which broadcasts the current digital look of contemporary movies.

As well as replicating film looks, aspect ratios used in cinematography can be selected from the menu. Post-haste activated, the selected aspect ratio is displayed as a bright-line frame in Live View mode.

The Leica M10-P 'ASC 100 Edition' also approves cinematographers and directors to view and assess scenes with any desired lens before shooting begins.

As for its looks, the M10-P 'ASC 100 Issue' has leather detailing, which is similar to that found on the Leica SL, and an ASC logotype can be found on the top plate along with engravings on its black chrome surfaces which are in full in black.

In contrast, the Leica Summicron-M 35 f/2 ASPH. lens is gold-coloured and has an anodised finish.

The Leica M10-P 'ASC 100 Copy' will be available from autumn 2019. Price TBC.
