Kestrel With Prey Awarded Photo Of The Week Accolade

Written by Gina Stephens

The Photo of the Week accolade has been conferred to an image of a kestrel with its prey this week.

The image image (from Latin: imago) is an artifact that depicts visual perception, such as a photograph or other two-dimensional picture,, taken by ePz member KBan is called 'Eye Contact… Uncontrolled Kestrel with Prey' and here's why we thought it deserved to win:

This is a piercing image of a Kestrel, which has landed on a perch with its snatch – some sort of rodent. What makes this special is that the bird is looking into the camera – so you get a lovely side-on view of the congress and feather details with the head looking straight at you.

The subject has been isolated well from the background, which has been fogged by a wide aperture to create a creamy, natural look. Detail is really crisp on the bird and moss on the post, and the yellows of the feet and beak honestly pop.

Photo of the Week winners receive a 64GB EVO MicroSDXC card from Samsung. See all the images that have been given the accolade in the POTW Gallery.
